Naxxramas. Great place. Lots of bugs. Plenty of stuff to kill.
In the aftermath of the "great hunter nerf of 3.0.8", I was eager to glean some numbers and experience with both my new rotation (4-shot priority) and my new satchel of bombs and Hyperspeed Accelerators.
Suffice it to say, the numbers freaking rock.
3650 DPS on Patchwerk (with 2.7% from Saronite Bombs). 4200 DPS on Loatheb. An overall composite of 2600 DPS, with my newfound bombs counting for a shocking 1.9% of my total DPS.
I can't vouch for my Beast Master or Survivalist brethren, but if you're a Marksman and you're doing it "right", the numbers are looking good.
Aimed and Arcane both need to be woven in, Steady needs to be a distant fourth priority, keep your Wasps about you, and go to it, Marksmen. 3.0.8 is the time!

I just wanted to drop a note to let you know that your site is the first place I came to after a patchwerk kill showed me that my BM days are over.
Last week: 5.3K DPS
This week: 3.3K DPS
The other BM and I decided he'd try out SV and I'd try out MM, so I headed on over to your place for some ideas.
Well, you should find a wealth of my ramblings (which some people call information), and if I don't answer your questions well enough, feel free to harass me on Twitter or comment directly. I love teaching.
Yeah, I switched from Survival to Marksman both after reading this blog and listening to Nassira comment on BRK with that silky schmexy voice.
Dunno, the new 30sec cooldown on L&L just doesn't sound like fun anymore. I liked my L&L procs random and... frequent.
Changed to MM just before patch 3.0.8 hit and just had time to run a Heroic Culling of Stratholme. 800 DPS increase straight up just from respeccing even with my hamfisted whack-a-mole shot rotation.
After I tweak a few things I think Marksman is the way to go for me.
Now... to figure out where the bomb throwing fits into the rotation...
I am only just getting the patch this morning (UK), but I persoanally will not be changing from BM, but I'm glad to see hunters experimenting with other specs, more diversity is good :-)
Rilgon, um... Aren't you currently quite a bit over the hit cap, with 6% hit from gear, 3/3 in Focused Aim and the draenei aura?
I haven't had a chance to mess with the hunter since the patch. I'd guess that if I must move from BM it would be to MM. I don't have the bombs tho.. grr Those sound pretty fun.
Well, I finally narrowed down the build that seems to put out as much DPS as possible for my play style with my 7/57/7 MM:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=502000000000000000000000000053352312350102501052003515000002000000000000000000000
Since I was above hit cap without the talent bonus, I threw the three points into improved hunter's mark.
Shot rotation is pretty straight forward and I use a wolf for the AP bonus buff. I stacked him with armor/stamina/AOE protection and some movement buffs to get him down in the fight faster. But in regards to DPS, he's not really a factor. Anyone in a group that throws down a AP buff on the group negates the wolf, but in case that buff ever drops...the wolf is a nice fall back. So, he has a bit of utility as well. The only downfall/struggle I have is remembering to change tracking for that 5% bonus I have talented. I may need a sticky note. Haha.
For shot rotation, I throw on Hunter's Mark and open with Serpent Sting. Followed by Aimed Shot, Chimera Shot and Arcane Shot. I then move to Steady Shot and weave in the above three as they come off cool down. Tossing in MD and Feint as needed as I steadily climb the aggro chart, via omen.
Thats always been against single targets or when soloing. Prior to the patch during group runs, I did what any self respecting DPS meter whore did and spam out the volleys. With my AP and crit, Volley was devestating.
Up to 78% of my damage in groups was solely because of Volley. It was great. But down comes the nerf bat and Volley...while still viable to group dynamics, is no longer skyrocketing me to 15% higher DPS then anyone else.
I think it needs to be tweaked a little, to apply a little more damage for hunters (maybe a reduction of 20% instead of 30%), but overall...I think its fair. Last night, in heroic UK, I was only out DPS'd by a mage in damn near full Naxx gear. And that was when I was using Volley. His blizzard was tearing up mobs left and right. But single target, I closed the gap. But in WotLK dungeons...AOE'ing mobs seem to be the flavor of the day....thusly...eh, I couldn't pull more then a solid 2nd place on the meters. The other mage in the group, dressed in rep blues and a few heroic purples was a lengthy 3rd place behind the 2 of us.
Earlier, we ran a 25 man VoA where again, I was 2nd place on the meter, only behind a death knight. I also play a 80 death knight, so I kinda mentally cheer them on when they hit the top. Haha. But it was a straight forward run and I wasn't stressed in the slightest with my above build and shot rotation. On VoA, I don't recall ever breaking top 3. Obviously, it could have been the group, but with that comfort level and my resulting DPS....I think MM made out of this patch quite well.
Speaking with other BM's...they are not that content...pet damage reduction and volley nerf has put a big hurt on them.
*Sorry for the edits...thats a lot of typing! Haha*
Yeah, I am - I'm not currently respeccing or anything currently because the amount that I'm over the cap will let me replace one piece of hit gear, should I want to (either my belt or my Sphere of Red Dragon's Blood). I'm just waiting for something to drop.
Wow, I wish I could report such enthusiastic numbers but the nerf was definitely a nerf. Patchwerk where I was between 5000 - 5500 dps in I fell to 4500 last night. That was also replacing my scorpid with a wasp, I don't have a lvl'd cat yet. Where I used to be a healthy margin above everyone else on the meters except when we have HAT rogues in the raid, I was last night only slightly ahead of the DK and Ret Pally's and on some fight's slightly behind them and even the SPriest (although his #'s were inflated from AOE'ing boss trash).
We did the Thaddius Subtraction Achievement which is killing him with only 20 people, and in that fight where I usually can hold my own over mellee, usually 1st or slightly 2nd behind a Ret Pally, this time I was 6th on the chart behind all the mellee. Top Ret Pally had 7800dps Fury Warrior and DK's and other Rer Pally's were above 6500 and I ended with 6400. Granted Mellee has less to run in that fight so ranged has a tougher time, but based on the night I would say Blizz did what they set out to do which was nerf hunter damage and bring it in-line iwth other classes... even though they made it so hybrid classes do more deeps than pure dps classes... i don't know their logic in that.
Wow, I wish I could report such enthusiastic numbers but the nerf was definitely a nerf.
Well yeah, because as you stated, you were using and overpowered Scorpid. That probably accounts for 80% of your loss in DPS.
Are you using Chimera, Arcane, Aimed, AND Steady?
