Sup. So specifically, this is a post aimed at Neggles and Maevet, but anyone's welcome to read. Specifically, it has to do with my recent trash-talking of Armor Penetration and why it's such a sub-par stat to gear for in Wrath.
We all know how Armor Penetration works now, right? You have X armor penetration, and it shaves that much armor off your current target. The more you get, the better it works, because armor is a scalar statistic - the more of it you have, the weaker gaining X more is. Conversely, the more ArPen you have, the STRONGER gaining X of it is, until your target has 0 armor.
Bosses have, usually, between 6200 and 7700 armor. I'm still trying to find an exact table of who has how much, and if anyone has one, I'd <3 you forever. But, aside from that, you have to remember that in Wrath, there's two kinds of armor reducers: Major and Minor. Sunder Armor is the most common Major Armor Reduce debuff that you'll encounter - five stacks of this is 2600 armor. Faerie Fire is the most common Minor Armor Reduce debuff of those that exist - that's another 610. Adding that up, your raid members are shaving off 3210 armor for you.
Now, before, your Armor Penetration continued to work against the armor that was left after the 3210 removed by your raid members. And this was great! The more you had, the closer you got to the Zero-Armor point, at which you're doing full damage. Sadly, however, Armor Penetration Rating changes all that.
At level 70, 7.5-ish ArPen Rating is 1% armor penetrated. Take a 6200 armor boss, like one from BT. 6200 - 3210 = 2990. Now, take a decent ArPen item... Oh, how does Steadying Bracers sound? In TBC, you're getting 105 ArPen out of them, putting you at 2885 Armor to fight against once you slip them on. However, in Wrath, they get changed to look like this. 15 Armor Penetration Rating. Now, given that it's roughly 7.5:1%, that means you'll punch through 2% of that 2990 figure. But wait! That's only 59.8 armor - only 56% as strong as it used to be! It gets worse, too. :(
Building out a armor penetration set of stuff that I see on WoWHead, I can get to 868 Armor Penetration rather easily. I'm not even really trying here. But if I turn that into ArPen Rating, that becomes 125 Rating. That's 16.6~% of the armor after debuffs that's shaved off - 498.3~ armor, in other words. Now it's down to 57% of what it used to be - the more ArPen Rating you get, the WORSE it is against an equal amount of ArPen.
And given how high things scale at 80... Ick.
Just say no to ArPen Rating (and Haste, too). :P

[B] DPSing on my 80 Premade.
Using 11/53/7 as I have detailed on the sidebar.
LOTS of things to remember here: Firstly, it's a level 80 dummy, so there ARE misses - I only have 54 Hit Rating, which is about 1% and change. Two, there are no raid buffs - no Sunders, no Faerie Fire, no Replenishment, no Windfury, no GotW, no AB, no nothing. Just Hawk, TSA, and my cooldowns. Third, I used the wolf I got from the premade stuff. Four, this gear is crap, and I want to replace it SO BAD.
My sustained DPS was 1607.3 @ 750 seconds of DPSing. Before my first dip into Viper, I climbed to almost 1925 DPS - Marksmanship starts super-strong but runs out of fire SO. FAST.
There were a few things that hurt me - I lost Hunter's Mark a few times, and I had three critical Chimera misses that made me lose my Sting and have to reapply it.
And no, I have no Glyphs - this is Murmur, there are like NO SCRIBES ANYWHERE. :(

I have a surprise and it is AWESOME.
I am in Beta, boys and girls, and it is GLORIOUS.Now, yes, I'm a Hunter. I hunt. It's what I do. But you know what, I'm an Engineer too, damnit, so the first thing I did upon getting to Northrend?
Grand Master Engineer Rilgon Arcsingh, reporting in to make Northrend my stomping grounds! Master Engineer Telonicus better respect. ;)I figure, since I am in the Beta now and my voice CAN be heard...
Let's make some useful suggestions! I like the current implementation of Viper, but if the damage penalty was scalar (like I suggested here), it would be so so SO good.
Chimera Shot is bonkers. I'm loving it so much already. Mana efficiency is painful, to say the least, but oh man the DAMAGE!
And holy CRAP at how good Gift of the Naaru is now! 767 a tick with my trinkets and Call of the Wild up?!Anyways, I'll be doing more Beta posts - for those not wanting spoilers, I will tag them with a [B] for Beta.
Bedtime for me. :P

Skills
Marksmanship
* Kill Shot required level changed from 71 to 75 for Rank 1, to 80 for Rank 2
* Scorpid Sting now reduces the chance to hit with melee and ranged attacks by 3%. (Down from 5%)
Survival
* Explosive shot damage has been reduced. (eg. [20% of RAP + 273] and [5% of RAP + 68] AOE damage to [8% of RAP + 238] + [2% of RAP + 59] AOE damage for Rank 4)
* Freezing Arrow now creates a trap that has a chance to break on damage. (Old - 100% chance to break on damage)
Talents
Survival
* Lock and Load now give you a 100% chance when you trap a target and a 15% chance when you deal periodic damage with your Serpent Sting to cause your next 2 Arcane Shot or Explosive Shot to trigget no cooldown, cost no mana, and consume no ammo.
* T.N.T. doesn't increase the critical strike chance of Explosive Trap anymore
* Improved Tracking now only increases all non-periodic damage. (Old - All damage)
Beast Mastery
* Separation Anxiety has been removed.
* *New talent* - Kindred Spirits (Tier 10) - Increases your pet's damage by 4/8/12/16/20% and you and your pet's movement speed by 2/4/6/8/10% while your pet is active.
Marksmanhip
* Rapid Recuperation has been changed from 3 to 2 points. Now Reduces the mana and focus cost of all shots and abilities by you and your pet by 30/60% (Old - 20/40/60%) while under the effect of Rapid Fire, and you gain 2% of your mana every 2 sec for 6 sec when you gain Rapid Killing.
Upcoming hunter changes (Not in this build)
* Aimed Shot - This shot will now be instant cast, its damage/effect/cooldown will remain unchanged.
* Scatter shot - This will now be an 11-point Survival talent.
* Readiness - This will now be the 21-point Marksmanship talent.
* Trap Mastery - This will now be the 41-point Survival talent. Granted, not very sexy for a 41-pointer but we'll do some changes there in a future patch (after WOLK ships).
Now, primarily, I want to draw you to the "upcoming changes" part.
THEY ARE MOVING SCATTER TO SURVIVAL. AND READINESS, OF ALL THINGS, TO MM.

WE'RE MC RAIDERS
WE AIN'T GOT NO LIFE
Man that song is so old school, but so is Molten Core itself. Well, the Knights decided that it was time to take a break from The Eye, and do something fun.
Well. It's fun when you don't miss the portal back to IronforgeShattrath after Golemagg dies because your guild doesn't have enough Quintessences. :P
But hey, I got some loot! Loot that I NEVER got when I was raiding the Core at 60!
And man, we certainly got a surprise that NO ONE in our guild expected to see!
GARR'S BINDING!!!!!
This went to our main tank for the raid, Valwyn - we're gonna be going back every so often just for the hell of it - can you imagine the awesomeness if we got a THUNDERFURY?!

This one's for you, Pike.
It's really ironic that I organized my bank about 3 hours before reading Pike's blog entry: Post Your Bank.

From the top:
Row 1: Gems. Ordered chromatically based off of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Rares before greens.
Row 2: Primals and motes. Ordered by element: Earth, Wind, Shadow, Fire, Mana, Water, Life. Motes on the left, Primals on the right.
Row 3: Enchanting mats (old-world), then gear I might use in the future or for resist fights, then ore.
Row 4: Enchanting mats (new-world), then gear I might use in the future or for resist fights, then bars.
Row 5: More Arcane Dust (I have too much), then repair bots and health/mana pots.
Row 6: PVP badges, TK mana pots, and my old land mounts.
Row 7: Useless crap.
The other rows are not organized by row: I have "sections" set aside for certain stuff - a "raid crap" section, a "reputation crap" section, and so forth.
On the whole, rather organized. :)

Alright, you know what? I'm officially weirded out now.
I should stop reading through my SiteMeter data, because it's starting to creep me out.
People google searching me by name? People searching for stuff about Rogues and getting linked to me? People having me referenced on their blogs but never informing me about it?
This is kinda weird. Since then the hell did I get well known? o_O;;
I have a simple request - if you have Stabilized Effort Scope linked on your blog, please let me know so I can cross-reference you. Sharing traffic makes the blogosphere run!
I swear, one day, people are gonna google search for Mage stuff and get here. Then I'm gonna need more than Brewfest Brew to make it make sense.
...well, there's still some Heineken left in the fridge...

I have this strange desire to get Exalted with the Cenarion Circle.
I don't know WHY I do, but I do. I did it pre-BC on my old character ( as well as almost becoming a Scarab Lord - missed it by 60 yards), so for some reason I get this idea that I should do it again.
I mean, the rep grind is 5 times faster, I still remember the Prophet's spawn patterns, I can probably plow through it fast as hell on my Hunter... And I'm almost Honored already!
Hrm... 12k to Revered and 21k to Exalted, 33k / 500 = 66 turn ins = 660 text...
Heck, that's not really all that bad. o_O;

So why are we Engineers, again?
(Disclaimer: This is a much more rational rewrite of my earlier very antagonistic and up-in-arms lambasting of Blizzard for the event I will be reporting on. Sorry for flying off the handle.)

Read them and weep. Ironic that I'd be eating my own words. Our beloved motorcycles, the crown jewels of the Engineer schematic book for Wrath of the Lich King, are no longer ours and ours alone. This presents a fair number of issues for the future of Engineering itself come Wrath, and is even calling me, one of the most radical and diehard Engineering fanboys, into serious doubts about my upkeep of the profession.
Engineering, from its inception, has been a profession based around an acknowledged agreement that we would sacrifice versatility, profit, and raid usefulness for fun and uniqueness. Most Engineers, myself included, have lovingly embraced that. And, regardless of that agreement, we've found niche uses for the devices we make - Repair Bots have always been a family favorite, and I always bring some even to 5-mans, just in case. Frost Grenades are a Hunter's best friend when kiting and trapping in an instance. Scopes have always been something that Hunters have loved, be it the lowly +1 damage scope or the mighty Accurascope and Stabilized Eternium Scope.
Over time, some usefulness and profitability has been given to us. The Zapthrottle, a staple of any Engineer's bags, has turned something that was intrinsically a money sink into an opportunity to, if not make money, at least supplement our own Primal needs. The Flying Machines finally gave us the sense of identity that we lost to Jewelcrafters with the inception of Burning Crusade. The goggles gave every class of Engineer a very solid piece of gear to guide them into at least Tier 5 content, and the Sunwell schemata, albeit exasperatingly hard to acquire and far too late to be of use, supplemented these goggles further.
This brings me to today. Engineering is a profession that, while not common, is taken by a few noble people who enjoy its quirkiness and have found uses for the few things that it provides that they can use in their realms of play, and has remained a profession that is obviously distinguishable from what it does to us aesthetically - our goggles and our helicopters. I had a very cute and fun discussion with a lowbie Priest in Shattrath the other day who had never seen one of our Flying Machines before. She was enamoured with it, and once I'd told her its origins, she swore she'd drop her professions and become an Engineer. It made me proud to add another person to our fold, as it were.
I held the same hope and mystique for the motorcycle mounts. Regardless of whatever good or bad came for Engineers in Wrath of the Lich King, that was the one glimmer of hope and excitement that bound us all together. Imagine it! Choppers for the air and choppers for the ground!
Then today, that hope was snatched from us. Our crowning glory, our pride and joy, our motorcycles are no longer ours and ours alone. With no bind on acquire, and no Engineering requirement, it will merely be a matter of time before they become as common and prolific as the Netherdrakes and Amani War Bears of today. This saddens me. People will ride them and love them, but they will not empathise on what it has taken to get them. They will not understand the tedium of leveling Engineering, not appreciate the sacrifice that an Engineer makes merely by BEING an Engineer - and it's an even bigger sacrifice in Lich King, with the powerful self-binding abilities coming to many crafting professions!
Many unaware people have continuously questioned the immediate and fiercely negative reaction from most Engineers in regards to this decision. Most tend to be "why don't you want this to happen? you will make money from it!" That is a very short-sighted and untrue conclusion. I ask you, my reader - how often do you genuinely tip a crafter for something they do? If you do, how much is it? I know I'm even guilty of this myself - my tips for enchantments and Stabilized Eternium Scopes (*grumble*, I should've had that schematic) usually ranges from 10 to 20 gold, depending on my mood and the candor of the Enchanter or Engineer I'm doing business with. Many people tip less - quite a few of my customers who get Potion Injectors or ammo dispensers often tip nothing. I am content with this. Why? Because even if my Engineering never gives me a dime of profit, it's given me a sense of unique identity and it's given me a mount that no non-Engineer can acquire, period. Now, both of those concepts are being stripped from us in Wrath. I guarantee you that there will not be a coalition effort by Engineers to keep these to ourselves, and I guarantee you that we will not be given the exorbitant amounts that we deserve to for these mounts.
I dunno. I'll live, and I still hang desperately on to a faint, dying hope that something good will come for Engineers, but I've seen it in original WoW, and I've seen it in TBC, and this mount was the only thing that actually said to me "it will still be worth it". I was willing to sacrifice the bonuses from any other profession for this mount.
The question is, since I no longer have to make that sacrifice, will I?

Beta 8970 - The "Nothing" Patch
*Master Marksman doesn't increase your total ranged haste anymore and reduces the Mana cost of your steady shot by 5/10/15/20/25% instead.
*T.N.T. stun duration increased from 2 to 3 seconds.
Yes, that's it. Obviously, MMO-Champion isn't 100% finished yet (non-updated Talent and Skill list, albeit updated Talent Calculator), but that's all they've found.
The nerf is still there. I wish I had good news for you guys, I really do.

Welp, here we go again...
The beta realms have been taken down to apply a patch. We anticipate approximately five hours of downtime. We'll notify you when the realms are made available again. Thank you very much for your patience.
Beta patch 8970 inbound... Here's hoping for some good to come of it - like, possibly, a reversion of the third largest nerf to ever hit us (the Mortal Shots change).

That's it. The writing's on the wall.

I really wish it wasn't true. But it is. This is a report of 250 Auto Shots fired at a Theramore Combat Dummy (i.e. 0 armor) with 5/5 Mortal Shots.
The ratio of my minimum hit to minimum crit: 2.06~
The ratio of my average hit to average crit: 2.07~
The ratio of my maximum hit to maximum crit: 2.05~
If I had fired enough shots (and I may leave it on today while I sleep to rack up more dataz), I'm pretty sure those would settle at 2.00 with all the statistical outliers coming in to play.
We're done. Auto Shot has been irreversibly nerfed, and I cannot imagine how we are going to compensate for this.
What a long, strange road this beta has been.

oh my god i just re-read mortal shots
Old: Increases your ranged weapon critical strike damage bonus by 30%.
New: Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your ranged abilities by 30%.
I swear to god, unless I'm reading that wrong, that is the biggest nerf to the Hunter class since Mortal Shots was originally nerfed from 50% to 30%.
IF YOU DO NOT CATCH MY REASONING, THIS IS INFERRING THAT IT NO LONGER WORKS ON AUTO-SHOT.
THAT IS FUCKING BAD. LIKE, HUGELY BAD.
That said, the spell information on WoWHead SEEMS to be the same, but... oh... my... god... If it no longer applies to Auto-Shot...

Welcome to Build 8962 - The Second Nerfbatting
I'll get the good stuff out of the way first. I found this gem in the Survival toolkit, and had a joygasm.
Freezing Arrow, Rank 1: Fire a freezing arrow that places a Freezing Trap at the target location, freezing the first enemy that approaches, preventing all action for up to 20 sec. Any damage caused will break the ice. Trap will exist for . Only one trap can be active at a time.
3% of base mana, 40 yd range, Instant cast, 30 sec cooldown
RANGED TRAPPING, PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS THE AMMO.
Then we get to the real meat and nerfs of 8962.
Cobra Strikes: Only affects the next two specials. (I think this is new)
Wild Quiver: This might not be a nerf, depending on how I read it. The new text reads: "You have a 10% chance to shoot an additional shot when doing damage with your auto shot, dealing 50% Nature damage. Wild Quiver consumes no ammo." Now, does that mean it's gone from doing 60% of an Auto Shot's damage down to 50%? Or does it mean it'll do a full Auto Shot's damage, but half physical and half Nature? If it's the former, they just nerfed an already useless ability. SWEET!
Master Marksman: WHY GOD WHY?! "Increases your critical strike chance by 5, and increases your total ranged haste by 5%." WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS, IT'S WORSE THAN THE 10% AP, EVEN WITH 5% MORE CRIT, JESUS CHRIST.
Combat Experience: ahahaha, just when we thought it was safe to put points here. "Increases your total Agility, and Intellect by 4%." How god-damn naive were we to assume that'd ever be good.
Hunting Party: THEY HALVED THE MANA THAT ITS REPLENISHMENT GIVES. WHAT. THE. FUCK. (Your Arcane Shot, Explosive Shot and Steady Shot critical strikes have a 100% chance to grant up to 10 party or raid members mana regeneration equal to 0.25% of the maximum mana per second. Lasts for 15 sec.)
Survival Instincts: *froths at the mouth* WHY ARE YOU TAKING MY RAP BUFFS AWAY FROM ME, BLIZZARD?!?!?!?! (Reduces all damage taken by 4% and increases the critical strike chance of your Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, and Explosive Shot by 4%.)
Other changes which aren't nerfs:
Kill Shot: Has three ranks now. Top rank is 205% weapon damage + (40% of RAP + 1200). Still no knockdown, but only works at Execute range... eh.
New mount found: Mekgineer's Chopper - Rides and parks a rockin' Mekgineer's Chopper. This is a very fast set of wheels. I PLEAD WITH EVERY DEITY, WOW-RELATED OR OTHERWISE, THAT THIS IS OUR MOTORCYCLE AND IT IS ENGINEER ONLY.
...I'll report more stuff if I find it (and edit it in here).
Oh, right, I forgot: The mana return from AotV was doubled. It still has the damage penalty.
Meaning my Chocobow will give me 5.6% of my maximum mana per shot. Eh...
Oh, hey, Glyph of Aspect of the Viper increases the mana income from AotV by 10% now. Meaning that A) a Chocobow nets you about 6.4% mana per shot and B) It's now basically a mandatory raiding Glyph, meaning I either have to drop Glyph of Steady Shot (nerfing my DPS) or Glyph of Arcane Shot (nerfing my mana efficiency). Joyous fuckin' day.
3% of base mana, 40 yd range, Instant cast, 30 sec cooldown

Not having access to the Beta forums exasperates me.
Why, you ask? Because the Beta forums seem to be overrun by PVP-minded blowhards. Every discussion of AotV, pet survivability, and the like is PVP-centric.
I know I'm probably going to alienate at least two readers (heya Bandet and Kordwar), but I genuinely do not care about the PVP future of Hunters in Wrath. If the class has potential, so be it, but there will be blood spilled if that future comes at the cost of PVE potential. Quotes such as "A mana regen based fully on physically attacking something is incredibly broken" exasperate me. It is perfectly fine for PVE, and solves the vast majority of our issues. You know what the overwhelming opinion about Old Beta Viper was amongst Hunters who weren't idiots? That it was fun. It was enjoyable. It made us feel like a real energy-based class, and if you'll think back to the Beta for Vanilla WoW, that's exactly what we were meant to be.
But no, if you believe what you read on the Beta forums right now, "REGEN FROM SHOOTING IS A FAIL". Of course, that only applies if you're in Arena - not all of us are, and I genuinely wish that none of us were. Then again, we already know that it's Dungeon Doom 2.0, but hey, it's what Kalgan does best. We gotta give him his dues, hrm?
My overwhelming concern is this: I am genuinely worried that Blizzard will continue to take opinions like I mentioned as the overwhelming mindset of the whole class, which is not the case. They're already forcing PVP upon undesiring PVEers with stuff like the S3 Waraxe (easily one of the best melee options in terms of effort to get:quality ratio), and now they're doing it again in Wrath with Lake Wintergrasp - there's a raid in there that you can only do if your faction controls Wintergrasp? How is that even remotely fair to PVEers? Spare me the lecture that Wintergrasp is kinda like a big, non-instanced battleground - I should not have to deal with PVP nonsense and gather a second set of gear JUST to gain access to a raid instance, nor should I have to place my eggs in the basket of the PVP-minded people on my server.
Please remember: PVE and raiding has been in this game since WoW 1.0. Battlegrounds, PVP, and Arena were a very distant afterthought, and balance should reflect this.

It was just a matter... of time...
No, I'm Marksmanship, durr.
In the spirit of adding bloggers who add me, I'm adding Kordwar of WTF, are you Survival? to my blogroll. Given that I have at least one other Survival Hunter on my blogroll (Neggle goes SV sometimes too, does that count as 1.5?), I see no reason why I should be adverse to the idea.
And besides, I have no problem with SV - It's BM that I have a problem wi... OOH, PUPPY!

Warking finally!
I don't like Wild Quiver anymore.
Unless they Glyph it or buff it, it's atrocious. Bad. Terrible.
With my current build (1/53/7), Glyphs (Steady, Arcane, and Trueshot Aura), over the course of three Heroic runs (Shattered Halls, Black Morass, and Magister's Terrace), Wild Quiver counted for exactly 0.97% of my nearly 1420 DPS.
I'm getting Improved Arcane. Wild Quiver is crap.

6 minute average: 1675 DPS.
Granted, that's on a Theramore Combat Dummy, which is level 1, and that's also with my usual potion repertoire engaged as well.
Some notes:
*Led with a Rapid Fire/Trinket macro, used it immediately at 3 minutes, and when it was ready once more, I finished my testing.
*Rotation was: Lead with Serpent, then repeat Steady/Steady/Arcane/Steady/Chimera every 10 seconds.
*No pots were used, due to Potion Sickness.
*When I ran too low on mana to maintain my normal rotation, I dipped into Viper and spammed Steady until Serpent was at 1 second, then re-applied Serpent.
*I was 1/53/7, mimicking the 11/53/7 talent tree I have listed on the sidebar, but without the 10 points in BM (the 1 point was in Imp Hawk).
Some thoughts:
*Wild Quiver is giving me mana when in Viper, and it doesn't seem to be mitigated BY Viper. Bug? Maybe, but I'm not mentioning it.
*The rotation fits like a glove if I don't have anything hasting me. If I do, I usually throw a third Steady in before Arcane.
*The lag on the PTR comes in these HUGE WAVES.
*Having matching moths is cute. <3
UPDATE: I went and did the same testing on the Level ?? Boss Dummy in Stormwind. Right now, I'm putting out about 1350 DPS on a Sundered target when the lag isn't bad. Dipping into Viper occasionally hurts really bad, but I fluctuate really wildly with crits and procs and stuff - 1350 is a 6-minute average.

I'm a Hunter by trade.
But I'm an Engineer by the grace of the Goblins.
That said, I'm kinda... worried about the fate of the profession in Wrath. So, since I don't have a Beta key (*grumble grumble* at Pike/BRK/Mania/everyone with one), I'm gonna use SES as a launching board for my desires for my beloved profession.
*Our new Tinker enchants stacking with real enchants. The only one I can ever see being used is the Haste to Gloves tinker. And honestly, I really don't even WANT that one - I really want the Rocket Launcher to Gloves tinker. :| But if I can't have my +Agi glove enchant and the Rocket Launcher, I may just get the Haste tinker and live with it, which would be a bummer. I wanna pull a Draenic Tony Stark!
*"Evolving" ranged weapons for Rogues, Hunters, and Warriors (DPS and tanking). Much like the Weaponsmith weapons, these would come in three or four tiers, and would get stronger as you go. To preserve the ability for Rogue Engineers to use Deadly Throw (am I really helping out Rogues? Blimey...), you could make the Rogue weapon a "thrown" weapon that's really like a Goblin Shuriken Launcher or something. It'd be like...
[Rogue/DPS Warrior Throwing Weapon - Blue] -> [Rogue/DPS Warrior Throwing Weapon - Epic Tier 1] -> [Rogue/DPS Warrior Throwing Weapon - Epic Tier 2] -> [Rogue/DPS Warrior Throwing Weapon - Epic Tier 3]
[Hunter Gun - Blue] -> [Hunter Gun - Epic Tier 1] -> [Hunter Gun - Epic Tier 2] -> [Hunter Gun - Epic Tier 3]
[Tank Gun - Blue] -> [Tank Gun - Epic Tier 1] -> [Tank Gun - Epic Tier 2] -> [Tank Gun - Epic Tier 3]
*Engineer-only Scopes! Yes, damnit, we should get an advantage in scope-making for keeping our profession. Any schmuck can use a scope, but if an Engineer crafts a scope to his own specifications that matches him like a glove, it should obviously give a better effect. Say, for example, the best non-Engineer scope is... 60 Crit (or Hit). An Engineer one could be 75 Crit (or Hit). 25% better - not huge, but a nice boost.
*Turn all our teleporters into Wormhole Generators. If we're going to [insert raid that's near a Goblin town], I'd like to be able to open up a wormhole and suck all the Knights in and save us all some travel time. And if I turnMeticulousMaevet into a murloc, all the better.
*More Goblin-only stuff! USABLE Goblin-only stuff!
*A way to get the GOD DAMNED PET BOMBLING WITHOUT RENEWING MY GOBLIN MEMBERSHIP 6.02*10^23 TIMES, FFS

[Rilgon] It is?
[Rilgon] Unmount their hard drives before it hits then, holy crap
[tech 3] Houston has some segmentation faults so Hurricane Ike is going to run a manual fsck on it
(Disclaimer: I have family that lives in the Houston area, and have been monitoring Ike extensively, so don't even DARE call me insensitive)

Hey, hot damn, Kill Shot isn't solely PVP shit anymore!
From Koraa:
"It will not cause the knockback effect any longer. It's now balanced to be around 2X the damage of steady shot."
Excellent! *Draenei air guitaring*

I love how self-defeating Hunters are.
What I don't love is how stupid and vocal the self-defeating Hunters are. The number of Hunters who have actually labeled the old Viper as "overpowered" shatters the brain - not only was it the best fix we've received since vanilla release, it was also A) very succinct, B) not suggested by any major theorycrafting Hunter, and C) finally corrected the vast majority of our PVE weaknesses and placed us on a even footing with every other melee DPS class.
Now, I can see basically every other class throwing a fit about it. After all, most people hate Hunters. This is a given fact. That said, it boggles the mind that Hunters themselves (unless their Hunters are just alts that they use to have some level of "cred" to troll the Hunter-related forums with) would actually scoff at fixes that fix our BASIC, CORE PROBLEMS is horrifying.
What's even more horrifying, however, is just how plain STUPID they are! Take, for example, this bile that was slung at me on MMO-Champion. Ignore for the moment that (s)he probably has an IQ below 70 for using that stupid "baww" bullshit, but look further at the message. Firstly, she claims to be a Survival Hunter - the ONLY Hunter spec that ISN'T starved for mana (sup Thrill). Beyond that, (s)he makes idiotic quips like "part of the game is learning what to do with your shot rotation so that you can keep a maximum dps up at all times, even if it means cooling off on dps sometimes to let your mana go back up" - what the hell is that even supposed to MEAN?! If you were actually SERIOUS about keeping your DPS at its peak (which you should), you would do everything you can to AVOID Viper (live OR beta) by chain-chugging Fel Mana Potions, running with Elixirs of Major Mageblood, and keeping Superior Mana Oil on every melee weapon you have strapped on. And for the most part, that gets the job done.
But here's the hitch - CHAIN-CHUGGING POTIONS IS GONE. FINITO. HISTORY. NO LONGER AN OPTION.
But then, you get to the end of this message, and you find the most hilarious thing I've ever seen suggested as a fix for our mana issues.
"get more MP5"
YES, LET ME RUN RIGHT OUT AND FUCKING STACK SOME MP5, OH BOY
Maybe we should stack some spell power for Arcane Shot, too. [/sarcasm]

Dumb server admins make me rage.
So get this. I've got this issue I'm handling at work. Apparently, this guy managed to get his server compromised, right? Virused out, it's being used in a botnet, the whole nine yards. We cut him off at the switch level and tell him that until he reinstalls his OS, he can't have access.
Fine, we start reloading his OS. Problems go down with our automated installer process. It happens - Windows ADS is not fool-proof (what with windows IS?). We explain that we're trying to fix it.
Then this guy calls us and goes into The Beast Within rage mode. Starts yelling about how he makes "4000 dollars of sales a day" through the server, the fact that it's offline is crippling his business, blah blah blah blah blah. More whining than Mages on patch day.
So I, in the back of my mind, ask myself: If you are making 4000 dollars a day, why don't you spend some money and get a redundant backup of your current server? Hell, a server with us at MAX is only about 900 dollars a month (and the one he has is way cheaper) - the "6000 dollars" he claims he's lost due to the delays would pay for a duplicate of his server for over a year. If you're really making that much money, how on earth can you justify NOT having redundancy? Christ.

Enough doom and gloom.
I want to say this. Aside from a few things, I'm really, really looking forward to Wrath. The fact that Naxxramus, one of my most beloved raids, is coming back for an encore performance has me positively brimming with childish happiness at getting to relive those happy (and in some cases super-stressful) memories of the place. From what I've seen, MM is at least getting competitive in DPS, and we're no longer a spec you'll bring along just because you like the person and they're too stubborn to respec. Core Hounds, after YEARS of waiting, are tameable at long last! The motorcycle, while not 100% confirmed yet, has a HUGE level of proof that it's Engineer-only, given that the item can fit in an Engineering bag.
There's so much to be thankful for, and I know I've been pretty doomy and gloomy lately, so I'd like to apologize, and let everyone know that there's still a lot of optimism behind these waggly chintacles.
Stay positive, everyone, and I'm sure good will come.

Ahaha, wow, the Kill Shot change is a HUGE nerf.
And I mean a HUGE nerf.
With the new formula, assuming that we use the gun from 10-man Kel'thuzad, the new Kill Shot is weaker all the way up to 10,000 Ranged Attack Power. And if you've got a level 80 blue gun, you're looking at getting to 15,000 RAP before it becomes an upgrade.
I mean jebus. God forbid our "execute" actually kill some people like other classes' versions. And they don't even CC the user!

Consolidated change list for Beta Push 8926
Copied and pasted from a topic on MMO-Champion:
* Wing Clip - New rank added "Inflicts 50% normal melee damage and reduces the enemy target's movement speed by 30% for 10 sec."
* Most Pet Skills - All ranks had a slight damage increase or decrease.
* Froststorm Breath - All ranks now slow for 5 seconds.
* Glyph of Aimed Shot - Now only reduces the cooldown by .5 seconds instead of 1
* Lock and Load - Now only affects your next shot, not the next 3.
* T.N.T. - Chance to stun only on when trap lands, and now increase the critical strike chance of your Explosive Shot and Explosive Trap by 3/6/9%, down from 5/10/15%
* Kill Shot - Now deals 200% weapon damage plus [RAP * 0.3 + 400.0] instead of weapon damage plus [RAP * 0.15 + 2500.0].
* Hunting Party - Effect now listed as lasting for 15 seconds.
* Master's Call - Can no longer be cast while stunned.
* Aspect Mastery - Aspect of the Monkey - Reduces the damage done to you while active by 5%, down from 10%. Aspect of the Hawk - Increases the attack power bonus by 30%, down from 50%.
* Cobra Strikes - Only next 2 of pets attacks will benefit, down from 3.
* Invigoration - Now gives a 50/100% chance to instantly regenerate 1% mana instead of giving instant regen of 1/2% of mana.
* Improved Steady Shot - Now only reduces mana cost by 20%, down from 40%.
* Aspect of the Viper - Now each ranged attack regenerates a percentage of maximum mana equal to base ranged weapon speed, down from 100% of damage done. Still incurs 50% less damage.
* Deterrence - No longer gives a 60% chance to resist all spell attacks for 10 sec
Opinions, from the top:
*Who cares? I don't Wing Clip often enough to care, and when I do, 30% is plenty.
*As long as it's more increases than decreases, good.
*Don't want a Chimera, but good to see it works now.
*Does anyone use Aimed Shot aside for a Misdirection opener?
*This is stupid - Lock and Load was fantastic. :|
*Don't care about the stun, but the crit reduction blows.
*Kill Shot is PVP crap, so I couldn't possibly care less.
*15 seconds is 7.5% of max mana - it's decent. (Fixed - originally I had this as 7.5% of BASE mana)
*Meh. I didn't ever see myself using Master's Call, so *shrug*
*Aspect Mastery looks less appealing now, kinda. I mean, 30% instead of 50%... It still has the 10% reduction of Viper penalty, though - I may get it just for that. Jury is still out.
*Meh, it sucks for when I'll be playing with Lezard, but aside from that, meh.
*See above. Serves BM right for being so stupidly mana efficient, PLUS they already get a benefit with the new Viper.
*This is fucking stupid and makes me angry.
*New Viper is BM-biased bullshit that should be based upon something other than just how fast you can shoot.
*Meh. I was gonna use it on Magic-heavy bosses (like Aran, for example), now it won't even get a button on my bars.
* T.N.T. - Chance to stun only on when trap lands, and now increase the critical strike chance of your Explosive Shot and Explosive Trap by 3/6/9%, down from 5/10/15%
* Kill Shot - Now deals 200% weapon damage plus [RAP * 0.3 + 400.0] instead of weapon damage plus [RAP * 0.15 + 2500.0].

What the hell is this crap?
New Aspect of the Viper in 8926:
"The hunter takes on the aspect of the viper, each ranged attack regenerates a percentage of maximum mana equal to base ranged weapon speed, but reduces your total damage done by 50%. Only one Aspect can be active at a time."
...what? I mean, sure, it obviously favors Marks due to the fact that we like (or did like) slow weapons, but... ugh. This is crap. It's obviously favorative to Beast Mastery since they shoot more often than we do already... This had better be REALLY good.
Thank god it's at least based off of MAXIMUM mana, not BASE mana.
Edit: Apparently preliminary testing (and reading) reveals that it does just what it says - it regenerates a percentage of your max mana equal to your base weapon speed. A 3.00 weapon (like Bristleblitz) will regenerate 3.00% of your mana - Thori'dal, on the other hand, will regenerate 2.70% of your mana.
Yay, YET ANOTHER FUCKING ADJUSTMENT that favors Beast Mastery Hunters. Jesus christ.

New beta patch tonight.
As usual, once the internet has the news available, we'll be aggregating it here for you on Stabilized Effort Scope with a Marksmanship bias and a angry attitude if it includes details of the AotV nerf.
Not fair. Obviously biased. Stabilized Effort Scope News.

Bird + DPS = dead bird

I really wish we'd hit Void Reaver for T5 stuff, but meh, that was satisfying to get, especially since the entire forces of the universe as a whole were working against me last night.
Still no new Beta news worth reporting - still waiting with bated breath for more information on the nerfed Aspect of the Viper.
We did it!
Well, I say "we" - I was dodging rainstorms and riding on trains catching fire - but the Knights of Valor have downed Al'ar! 5/6 and 2/4 now... Hopefully tonight, since we know we can get Al'ar, we can detour to Voidy and Solarian first - I really need loot from them; Al'ar, not so much. :P
Down to (up to?) only 1900g that I owe, as well. :)

The Fourth Horseman is...
BARON RIVENDARE?!
AWESOME
Also, from the video seen here, the fight looks almost completely intact. In 10-man, it seems casters (Fire Mage in that video) and Hunters get to tank!
It's like Maulgar on CRACK.

I like what I'm reading about Naxx!
Patch still wants to play (and is still a crazy DPS check)
Heigan dance is still in effect (must remember to load MAX 300 up for that)
Loatheb spores *drool*
I am so curious to see how the Four Horsemen work in 10-man.
Loot is looking sweet on the 10-man portion from the early reports, but one thing worries me: There's a very marked lack of Hit Rating on the mail. Sure, there's Haste coming out its EARS, and enough Armor Pen to make clothies cry, but there's not much Hit. Across the ranged weapon, the off-set pieces, and the whole 5-piece Hunter set, I see only about... 3.7% hit?
Kinda worried...

New talent specs.
For me:
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?hunter=512002015250112431025313115000000000000000000000000000005005210200000000000000000
No, you're not hallucinating, and yes, that's 51/15/5. Shut up.
For my Core Hound:
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?petcalc=mqd00fc0zIoo
And yes, I'll probably go back to MM after about a week of running around with an Ancient Core Hound, but I've wanted to tame one since effing patch 1.0. There's no way I'm passing the opportunity up.

Found a humorous webcomic today.
http://nothing-worth-noting.com/
Found it on my adventures in the intertubes and was quite pleased with how hilarious it is. Great drawing style, too.
Sure, it's not WoW related, MM related, SES-related, or anything. But it's FUNNY!

KORAA. MUST. DIE.
"We're going to be changing it [Aspect of the Viper] so that procs/hits restore a % of your base mana each time you hit, rather than base it off your actual DPS/damage. While the return of mana based on your actual damage numbers do make the ability a lot of fun (at least I thought so!), it has bad scaling issues."

Hey, you guys said it was cool, so I wanted to geek out about a couple of vaguely WoW-related things that are happening in real life.
Firstly, anyone who knows anything about Hunters knows about BigRedKitty, right? Well, apparently, Mrs. BRK, his wife, is on the verge of taking a job offer in San Antonio! Now, you're probably wondering "Rilgon, you blueberry-flavored idiot, why do you care?" Well, I live in Texas, too, and somewhat close to San Antonio. (I won't reveal statistics - that's the last thing I need, getting ganked in contested territory around here IRL) I'm certain there's other Hunters in Texas, too - it's a trip being in the same state as one of your class's iconic members.
Now to a more personal level. Everyone knows about MMO-Champion, right? Good. Well... I work for the server hosting company that owns the servers that they run on. And last night, I actually did maintenance on one of their servers! Nothing major - it was simple hard drive/RAM diagnostics (Dell diags ftw) and a FSCK when they were done, but you have no idea the sheer level of WoW geek pride that was surging through my veins when I cracked open the chassis of a MMO-Champion server at my workbench for testing. That was... well, it wasn't quite as awesome as the Turbo-Charged Roflcopter of Doom, but it was close. :)

Thinking of changing up my talent spec.

Changes from my current build:
-3/3 Focused Aim
-3/3 Hawk Eye
+2/2 Improved Revive Pet
+1/5 Endurance Training
+1/1 Aspect Mastery
+2/2 Survival Instincts
Thoughts? The more I think on it, I'm pretty sure I can forgo Focused Aim in order to snag Aspect Mastery - those are REALLY tempting bonuses. And as a MM Hunter (a.k.a. a RAP WHORE), Survival Instincts is looking REALLY snazzy, plus really inviting for the damage reduction bonus - I have a stupid tendency to ignore important things like FLAME PATCHES.

Boy am I glad I don't PVP...
From MMO-Champion:
"Disarm Trap range increased to 20 yds, cast time reduced to 1 sec, now requires stealth."
Are they serious? Are Rogues god-damned Sith or something? Jesus H. Christ on a god damned nuclear-powered pogo stick.
Plus the new Shadow Dance thing lets them perform all their Stealth-requiring openers WITHOUT STEALTH!
WHAT THE CHRIST!

Reading my Sitemeter statistics is fascinating.
Not only am I getting incoming traffic from Pike, Mirsh, Maevet, and Brajana, I'm also getting it from people finding my comments on items on WoWHead, people seeing my posts on MMO-Champion, and get this - people are actually searching for me ON GOOGLE!
I've had incoming hits for people looking for Alumatine (heh), people looking for the best MM spec for Wrath (they're in the right place), and one person even looked for stabilizedefforscope by name.
Am I actually getting that popular? I know people HATED me back before I quit. What's with the sudden upsurge in popularity?

Sent off the first payment :P
With the speed at which I can gather gas clouds with my new screaming banshee of a helicopter, paying off this debt is gonna be a cinch. I just had 10 Primal Shadows come back from auction at 25g a pop - that's 200 sent to Maevet as a first payment towards what I owe.
I've also honed my skill at gathering gas clouds - two addons: Routes and GatherMate are making this super easy. After importing data from WoWHead with GatherMate, Routes makes a nice little red line on my minimap that I simply fly along and volia, gas clouds.
I'm amassing a veritable atmosphere's worth of Primal Air for my own hoarding, but the Primal Shadow, Water, and Mana are all AH fodder :)
200g down, 2400g to go. :P

In debt up to my eyeballs and I'm flat broke.
Aha! I have it!
See, this is why I love Cheeky's. I've been rolling the numbers and the gear through it, and the best changes so far for me look to be:
Shoulders: Replace with Rift Stalker Mantle. Gem it with Rubies.
Gloves: Rift Stalker Gloves. Nets me that oh-so-delicious 2-piece bonus.
Pants: Replace with Void Reaver Leggings, gem chromatically with DLR, GNT, and SN to get the set bonus and free up my belt's gem slot from being a green (for my meta).
Finger: Replace Band of the Raven Lord with Angelista's Revenge.
Ranged: Get the Chocobow.
Neck: Shattered Sun Pendant of Might. (Once I get Exalted with the Aldor - anyone wanna hook a blueberry up with some Marks?)
Belt: Regem with a Glinting Noble Topaz. Activates the belt's set bonus and safely deposits me just at my hit cap. (Okay, three points over, but who's counting)
This puts my gear looking like:
Head: Surestrike Goggles 2.0 + Relentless Earthstorm Diamond + Shifting Nightseye
Neck: Shattered Sun Pendant of Might
Shoulders: Rift Stalker Mantle + Delicate Living Ruby + Delicate Living Ruby
Back: Vengeance Wrap + Delicate Living Ruby
Chest: Tunic of the Ranger Lord
Wrist: Steadying Bracers
Hands: Rift Stalker Gloves
Waist: Belt of the Silent Path + Glinting Noble Topaz
Legs: Void Reaver Greaves + Delicate Living Ruby + Glinting Noble Topaz + Shifting Nightseye
Boots: Fiend Slayer Boots + Delicate Living Ruby + Shifting Nightseye
Rings: Garona's Signet Ring and Angelista's Revenge
Weapons: Breeching Comet + Smooth Dawnstone and Breeching Comet + Glinting Noble Topaz
Ranged: Crossbow of Relentless Strikes
Phew. Time to get cracking.

Heading to The Eye tomorrow.
Yeah, I'm nervous - I've been poring over WoWWiki's entries for the instance, its trash, and the first two bosses (Voidy and Al'ar) for a few days now.
I feel kinda daunted - I feel like I'm fourth string amongst the hunters in Knights - a couple of Hunters have me obviously out-geared (Maevet being one, clearly :P), and I'm kinda fighting/struggling to stay in third or fourth amongst Hunters. I kinda get this feeling every so often that I'm not doing as well as I could or should. I really wish I had the cash to gem out my stuff with epic gems, but with me being so close (well, relatively) to my epic helicopter, it's just so hard to spend ANYTHING.
I'm hoping for the pants from Void Reaver - they'd make a huge difference in both my wonky hit situation and my DPS. Al'ar doesn't have much for me, given the lack of difference it would make to my DPS, but if we can smash Void Reaver AND Al'ar fast enough, we might get to Solarian... Star-Strider Boots would be a nice replacement to the ones I have now - passing on the Fiend Slayer Boots at Kara last run was so hard, but it was invariably the right choice - the Hunter who received them had green boots - if I hadn't, I would've been so selfish.
I dunno, I feel like I'm in a loot rut. I'm so far away from my new crossbow, and any alternatives to said crossbow are even further out of reach - one does not simply walk up to Archimonde or Illidan and demand lewtz. I dunno if I can get Angelista's now - the Hit that I'd lose from going with it would throw my whole balance out of whack if I get the pants from Void Reaver, and making a Belt of the Black Eagle makes less sense now...
Why can't all this math just be simple? Oh well, I guess that's why I love the class. :)

That's strange.
Apparently, according to Cheeky's, if I go and get the Arcanite Steam-Pistol, my shot rotation won't actually expand out any, but it WILL get a bit slower.
Who knew that 2.80 was good for Marks Hunters? o_O;
That said, any of the wonderful 3.0 speed bows (Ancient Amani, Bristleblitz, or Black Bow) do make my rotation a bit tighter, but... I dunno if I'll ever see any of those. :(
I guess I get to get a Chocobow. :P
Chocobow is a registered trademark of Pike of Aspect of the Hare.
Edit: And go figure. Apparently Bristleblitz and Black Bow are both upgrades over Crossbow of Relentless Strikes - Black Bow nets me about 1 DPS (lol) and Bristleblitz gets me 8.
Plus, I get a more merciful rotation with less clipping.
WTB access to Archimonde or Illidan :(
Edit 2: From here, my ideal weapon progression looks like:
Steelhawk -> Arcanite Steam Pistol (+7 DPS) -> Ancient Amani Longbow (+19 DPS) -> Crossbow of Relentless Strikes (+20 DPS) -> Black Bow of the Betrayer (+1 DPS) -> Bristleblitz Striker (+7 DPS).
Numbers are an increase from what's before it in the order. I'm probably gonna skip Arc and AAL.

Closing in!
On my Champion of the Naaru title, that is! Me and some of the Knights went out and smashed up Steam Vault, Shadow Labyrinth (that was a nightmare), and Shattered Halls and got two out of my four Trials of the Naaru completed. Now it just comes down to an Arcatraz run and a Magtheridon run and I'll be Rilgon, Champion of the Naaru!
In other news, we start assaulting The Eye in full force on Tuesday - here's hoping for some delicious pants - as much as I'd want a new gun, I just know I'll get my Chocobow soon enough to make it not worth a new scope.
Hrm... It's looking like my hit issues are starting to turn around - instead of being over-hit, I'm looking like I might start being UNDER hit-cap soon. Ack!
